JAMMU, Nov 10: Batwal Youth Development Committee (BYDC) has said that the government should name Gho Manhasa road after Vir Chakra Mohan Lal Lakhotra, who hailed from village Pouni Chack on Gho Manhasa road.
In a meeting of BYDC here today at village Garhi, R.L Kaith said that Lance Naik Mohan Lal was a daring soldier of 8 JAKLI.
Welcoming the initiative of the Government for naming infrastructure assets after martyrs, he said, on the night of December 7, 1971, Mohan Lal was manning the Medium Machine Gun (MMG) when the enemy attacked with heavy artillery fire.
“Undeterred, Mohan Lal kept on firing at enemy halting his advance thereby enabling own troops to reorganise for a counter attack as a result of which the enemy was forced to retreat. Eventually, dead body of Lance Naik Mohan Lal Lakhotra was found at his MMG post but in front of the bunker there were bodies of many enemies,” Kaith maintained adding: “He was posthumously awarded Vir Chakra.”
Hans Raj Motan, Birbal Mandi, Manoj Kumar Motan, Koushal Kumar Mandi, Aman Kumar Lakhotra, Sunil Kumar Kaith, Ramnik Kumar and Sunil Kumar were also present in the meeting.
