ANTF arrests drug peddler with over 200 kgs of poppy straw

JAMMU, Sept 24: Anti Narcotic Task Force (ANTF)–a specialized wing to check rising menace of drugs of Jammu and Kashmir police, achieved another success today after it foiled a bid to smuggle poppy straw worth lakhs of rupees.
According to SP ANTF Vinay Sharma, information was received by ANTF that a large quantity of poppy straw is kept beneath apple boxes loaded in a Punjab bound truck bearing registration number JK02AG-8035.
“Acting over the information, a case under FIR Number 12/2021 under Section 8/15 NDPS Act was registered at Police Station ANTF Jammu”, he said, adding that ANTF team immediately swung into action and laid naka near Parmandal Morh.
SP informed that the above mentioned truck loaded with fresh fruit boxes was stopped by the ANTF team and during search of the truck, with the help of Dog squad of Crime Branch Jammu, ANTF team recovered 208.200 kilograms of poppy straw concealed in 13 plastic bags.
Driver of the truck identified as driven by Mushtaq Ahmed Rather, son of Abdul Kareem Rather of Dooru Anantnag has been arrested in the instant case and truck has been seized, he said, adding that ANTF is investigating further links and more arrests are expected.
He appealed to the general public to share information regarding such drug dealers so that appropriate legal actions are taken against them and this menace is uprooted from our society.
