UDHAMPUR, May 15: In a view of ongoing lockdown imposed around the country due to COVID-19, the District Legal Services Udhampur proved to be a beacon of hope for 16 family members of Delhi stranded in Udhampur.
After getting the information that 16 stranded travelers including women and children are on road due to forcible eviction by a local hotel owner where they were putting up from last 15 days and are appealing for help, Secretary DLSA Rajni Sharma, on the directions of Chairman District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Y P Bourney, swung into action and initiated their efforts to mitigate the sufferings of family in distress.
Secretary DLSA took up matter with local administration and local police after which a police team from Udhampur police station along with Retainer Lawyer Sanjit Kumar reached the spot and re arranged hotel accommodation for families in distress. DLSA team also arranged meals and dry ration for stranded travelers and assured every sort of help till arrangement of their transportation will be made by district administration.
The stranded people from Delhi were teaching craft work in local schools here but after lock down they became jobless and were putting up in a local hotel but when they ran out of pocket, hotel owner forced them to vacate hotel. Meanwhile, district administration has launched initiative to send these families back to their homes shortly.
