SRINAGAR, June 11: Government has given revenue target of Rs. 1345 cr. to the Commercial Taxes Department (CTD) during the current financial year. The department has realized record revenue of Rs. 1162.10 cr during the last fiscal against the target of Rs.1110 cr as compared to last year’s revenue of Rs.1035.61 cr thus surpassing the target by Rs.126.49 cr.
This was stated at the Annual Performance Review meeting of the Commercial Taxes Department, Kashmir Division held here today under the chairmanship of the Minister for Finance and Ladakh Affairs Abdul Rehim Rather.
The Commissioner, Commercial Taxes, Kifayat Hussain Rizvi, Additional Commissioner Commercial Taxes Kashmir, Hakim Rafiq Ahmad, Additional Secretary Finance, Showkat Aijaz and Commercial Taxes Officers (CTOs) of 24 circles of Kashmir Division were present in the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that since the Commercial Taxes Department is the main revenue collecting agency of the State, which gives major support to the Government’s plan and programme implementation mechanism, the officers should exhibit their utmost proficiency and ability for further improving the performance of the department. He asked the officers to maintain friendly relations with the trader’s community, which, he said was imperative for better working as well as revenue realization.
He said business community is the respectable segment of the society so in no way should there be any inconvenience to them. “We all should strive to provide a congenial, customer friendly and transparent atmosphere to the traders,” he added.
Mr. Rather also called for an effective and strict monitoring mechanism for tax realization adding that any kind of gross negligence on this account on the part of CTOs would be viewed seriously. He also urged for regular inspections and assessments to ensure disposal of different pending cases. He called for conducting regular internal audits adding that CTOs should conduct regular assessments at least twice in a month.
