JAMMU, May 30: After taking over the charge as Commission, Commercial Taxes (CT), Kifayat Hussain Rizvi, today visited the winter capital of the State and took stock of the functioning of the Jammu wing of the Commercial Taxes Department.
Besides interacting the various functionaries of the department, Rizvi also visited the checkpost Lakhanpur and reviewed its working. He issued on spot instructions to streamline the functioning of the checkpost and to ensure that genuine, honest and regular traders or dealers do not face any difficulty at the checkpost.
Besides, they have been strictly instructed to be doubly assured before taking any action under provisions of various Acts as the dealers from far flung areas cannot afford to visit the Checkpost to plead their cases, hence it is incumbent upon the functionaries of the department that they should treat every dealer or trader with honour and dignity. But at the same time, tax evaders or law violators shall be dealt strictly.
Rizvi also met the members of Jammu Tax Bar Association who apprised him of the difficulties being faced by them due to the pendendency of various cases. They suggested that while drafting tax legislations or making amendments in the existing legislations, they should also be associated, as they have rich experience and can contribute a lot. Mr Rizvi assured them of full cooperation and welcomed their suggestion.
Later, the representatives of Jammu Goods Transport Companies Association called on Rizvi and seized him of various problems being faced by them.
The commissioner sought cooperation from both dealers as well as transporters with regard to submission of VAT-65 at the checkpost as it will ensure transparency, accountability and fewer seizures.
