Punjab BJP gives Rs 2.86 lakh to Chamel Singh’s family

CHANDIGARH, May 18:  Bhartiya Janata Party has given Rs 2.86 lakh to the family of Chamel Singh, who was beaten to death in Pakistan’s Kot Lakhpat Jail.
The amount, contributed by the BJP workers in Punjab, was handed over to family of Chamel Singh by the party MP Avinash Raj Khanna, who is also incharge BJP, and other senior leaders, here today.
Talking to media persons on the occasion, Avinash Raj Khanna demanded that a suitable amount of compensation should also be given to the family of Chamel Singh by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir just like Punjab Government gave to the family of Sarabjit Singh who died under the similar circumstances. In addition to the compensation, the BJP leader also demanded that jobs should be given to Chamel Singh’s sons as after their father there was no working hand in the family. His (Chamel’s) sons are working as labourers in the fields of others and it is very difficult for them to fulfill their basic needs, he added.
Chamel Singh’s family thanked the BJP leadership and said that it was BJP and its leaders who were working day and night to get the body of the deceased back from Pakistan. They also demanded that a martyr status should be given to the deceased and a suitable compensation should also be given to them by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir as well just like Punjab Government gave to Sarabjit Singh’s family.
Earlier, a Havan was also performed for peace to the soul of deceased Chamel Singh.
State President of Punjab BJP Kamal Sharma, senior leader Balram Ji Dass Tandon, Vineet Joshi, Ajay Jamwal and BJP J&K Cells Incharge Sat Sharma (CA) were present on the occasion.
The BJP leaders criticized the Indian Embassy in Pakistan for asking the family of Chamel Singh to bear the expenses of bringing his body back to India.
