Provide relief to stranded nomadic Gujjars: TRCF to Govt

JAMMU, May 12: Due to un-seasonal snowfall and heavy rain in upper reaches of north-western Himalaya, around two lakh to three lakh nomadic Gujjars and Bakerwals are facing lots of problems.
In a statement issued Dr Javaid Rahi, secretary, Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation (TRCF) said that thousand of Gujjars and Bakerwals are stranded at different points in the mountain ranges of Pir Panjal, Shivalik, Trikuta and Zojila and are facing lots of problems.
“We received reports form tribal that a number of  nomadic families are stranded near Pir Panchal, Doda, Anantnag, Kulgam, Zojiala pass, Jamia Gali, Pir Ki Marg, Chhapran, Upper Banihal, Wadwan, Trichhal, Mughal Road, Gurez Macheil sector and are facing lots of hardships due to heavy snowfall and rainstorm continuously for the past few days.
He said that the main tribal migration routes include Jamiya Gali, Gora Batta, Nanansar, Ropadi Dharhal Pass and others were badly damaged due to heavy snowfall and needs immediate repairs.
Dr Rahi impressed upon various organizations working for tribal in the State to mobilize resources for providing necessary logistics to the tribes.
Dr Rahi urged the authorities to conduct an aerial survey of the area and provide them food, medicines, blankets and fodder for their animals. He also urged Defence Minister to help the stranded nomads and also appealed the Government for necessary advisories to district administrations.
