JAMMU, May 9: Pradesh Youth Congress leader and Assembly segment president (PYC) for Bhaderwah, Nadeem Sharief Niaz has alleged that due to delay in the relief and restoration work in the earthquake affected Bhaderwah and Doda areas, the people are suffering a lot.
Addressing a press conference here today, the PYC leader expressed his concern over the delay caused in the relief and rehabilitation work. He pointed out that he along with Youth Wing leaders of the area visited many villages and found that nearly 95% houses have been damaged. He said even after the major earthquake on April 30, many after shocks were observed in the area the terrorized people, spent several nights outside in the open.
Though he expressed gratitude to the Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for announcing funds for relief and rehabilitation yet he maintained that the funds were not adequate. He demanded that cracks have been developed in all the houses and it is very dangerous to stay inside in view of the after-shocks/ tremors for at least 60 times.
He further alleged that after 2005 earthquake, the State Government claimed to have constituted Disaster Management agency but unfortunately no existence of such an agency was witnessed during last 10 days in the area. It seemed to be merely on the papers and nothing was found on the ground for the public. He said during this earthquake maximum damage has been caused to the Government buildings and schools which indicates that quality of work was very poor or sub-standard. He demanded an inquiry into the constructions done on Government buildings. He stressed that all the constructions should be earth quake resistance in this entire belt.
