JAMMU, Dec 1: World AIDS Day was observed today by various educational and health institutions across the Union Territory of J&K by organizing a number of activities to aware the masses of AIDS, its causes, prevention and tools currently available in order to check spread of AIDS virus.

Cluster University of Jammu (CUJ) organized a webinar to commemorate World AIDS Day under the patronship of Prof Manoj Dhar, Vice Chancellor, CUJ. Dr Priya Gupta, MD Pathology, J&K Health Department Udhampur, was the Resource Person while the webinar was chaired by Prof Geetanjali A Rana, Dean faculty of Humanities and Liberal Arts, CLUJ. She stressed on increasing HIV awareness and knowledge, and supporting those living with HIV without any stigma. About 100 students and faculty from PGI Schools of CLUJ participated in the webinar.
Dogra College of Education organized webinar on the theme “Ending the HIV epidemic resilience and impact on the occasion of “World AIDS Day” in collaboration with NSS unit of College on 1st of December 2020. The resource person on the occasion was Dr Sandeepa Bailam, Assistant Prof Department of Community medicine ASCOMS, Jammu, who shared her views regarding AIDS virus origin, factor responsible for causing epidemic and HIV prevention, treatment tools currently available in order to cure HIV epidemic from the society.
In connection with observance of World AIDS Day, Financial Commissioner Health and Medical Education, Atal Dulloo, today flagged off a cycle rally from GMC Jammu here to create awareness among the masses. The crally was organized by J&K AIDS Control Society in collaboration with Jammu Hill Cyclists, Rotary Club Jammu and Jammu Cyclist. The rally passed through Bakshi Nagar, K C, Jewel Chowk, Bikram Chowk, Gandhi Nagar and Satwari and culminated back at the GMC Jammu. Later, Atal Dulloo inaugurated voluntary blood donation camp at Blood Bank of GMC.
Government College of Education (GCoE) Jammu observed World AIDS Day under the theme ‘Global Solidarity Shared Responsibility’. The program was organized to spread awareness about AIDS and acknowledge the responsibility of each and every individual in building a healthy, prosperous and AIDS free society.
The program was ably conducted by NSS Program Officer Dr Shubhra Jamwal of GCoE along with the NSS volunteers of the college. Prof (Dr) Kulvinder Kour, Principal of the College applauded the efforts of the college staff and volunteers and emphasized the importance of making the youth aware about their surroundings in every aspect.
A series of events including Painting Competition, GIF/ Meme Making Competition and Awareness Drive were conducted under the theme. Priya Chivalry Singh (NSS volunteer from GCoE) contributed in the successful management of the event.
An inter college ‘poster making and slogan writing competition’ was organized in Government Degree College (GDC) Marh under the supervision of Principal Prof Aekta Gupta. The students from various colleges participated and gave a strong message and information through their slogans and colorful posters to end the HIV infection by adopting safe precautions as prevention is the best measure when their is no cure.
NSS Unit of GDC Khour organized an online quiz. The aim of the quiz was to raise awareness of AIDS caused by the spread of HIV infection. The programme was conducted under the supervision of Prof Hans Raj, Principal GDC Khour and organized by Gurvinder Kour, NSS Programme Officer. About eighty students from various colleges of the J&K UT and other states participated in the quiz.
The Red Ribbon Club of GDC Akhnoor under the guidance of Principal Dr Namarta, conducted various activities (by using digital platform) including a painting competition on public health threats like HIV/AIDS, TB, Drug De-addiction & COVID-19; creating GIFs and memes around the theme and downloading of NACO AIDS mobile app. The students participated with great enthusiasm in these activities.
An inter college poster making competition was organized by Government College for Women (GCW) Bhagwati Nagar under the guidance of Principal Prof Minnie Sharma to observe the World AIDS Day. There was an overwhelming response from students, who exhibited their imaginative proficiency and creative skills by making informative posters to create awareness about AIDS/HIV.
The Red Ribbon Club of GDC Udhampur celebrated World AIDS Day by organizing an awareness campaign along with online essay writing and poster designing competition. The NCC and NSS volunteers of the college participated in these events.
NSS unit of GDC R S Pura organized an online poster making competition under the guidance of Principal Dr Sunita Sudan. An essay writing competition was also organized on the theme ‘Make India AIDS Free’.
Red Ribbon Club of GDC Jindrah organized an online poster/GIFs/Memes making competition under the guidance of Prof Dr Rajshree Dhar, Principal of the College. Students of all semesters took active participation by sending their posters.
To commemorate “World AIDS Day”, GDC Vijaypur organized a national level online poster making and slogan writing competition. Talat Parvez Rohella, Commissioner/Secretary, Higher Education Department, UT of J&K was the patron of the competition. The event was co-coordinated by Dr Ruchi.
GDC Basohli organized a function to World AIDS Day, in which a good number of students and staff members participated. The function was presided over by the College Principal, Dr P K Rao. The key speaker on the occasion was Dr Mudit, MO, SDH Basohli, who spoke in detail about all aspects of AIDS including causes, cure and prevention.
Red Ribbon Club of GDC Ramnagar in collaboration with JKACS organized an online session and poster making competition on World AIDS Day. The session was attended by around 100 students of the college. Keynote speaker Dr Hari Singh (HoD, Zoology), in his lecture, discussed the urgency of ending HIV/AIDS.
Government PG College Rajouri organized an online poster making and mask designing competition to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS, Drugs De-addiction, under the guidance of College Principal Prof (Dr) Shakeel Ahmed Raina. A large number of students participated and were awarded with e-certificates.
GDC Kalakote organized an awareness programme on AIDS under the supervision of College Principal Prof (Dr) Romesh Kumar Gupta. Various other activities including online painting/mask making competition on topics like HIV AIDS, Drug Addiction Day and COVID-19 were also organized.
In connection with World AIDS Day, GDC Poonch organized online poster making and slogan writing competitions under the guidance of Principal Prof Syed Mussaraf Hussain Shah. Students of about 20 colleges participated in the competitions enthusiastically.
Red Ribbon club of GDC Thannamandi organized several activities including painting competition, mask designing and slogan writing competition. The entire programme was conducted online, under the supervision of Principal Dr Javaid Ahmed Qazi.
GDC Bhaderwah in collaboration with the JKACS observed World AIDS Day, under the guidance of Dr Kuldeep Kumar Sharma, Principal GDC Bhaderwah. The main activity organized during the event was online painting competition in which students from different educational institutes participated.
To mark the occasion, Government Polytechnic College, Bikram Chowk Jammu organized mask designing, painting, GIFs and Memes competition for staff members and students of the college. Principal Arun Bangotra directed the students to visit the website of National AIDS Control Organization (NACO) for getting awareness about AIDS.
Senior scout master Rakesh Singh of District Udhampur organized online AIDS/HIV awareness campaign under the banner of Bharat Scouts and Guides Udhampur through unit of Everest Public High School Udhampur. Scouts and guides displayed placards and slogans to aware the community about its causes, symptoms and preventive measures.
Directorate of Health Services, Kashmir (DHSK) observed ‘World AIDS Day’ across Kashmir division to educate people about the disease. All the Chief Medical Officers of Kashmir division including their subordinate staff actively participated in the programme. The mass AIDS awareness campaign was launched across the Division by utilizing social, electronic and mass media apart from local awareness programmes conducted at district and block levels.
GDC Dharmari (Reasi) organized an intra-college online essay writing competition in which 40 students participated. Earlier, an AIDS awareness programme was organized by the Psychological Councelling Cell in collaboration with NSS unit of the college under the guidance of Principal Dr KK Sharma.
