IISF Vigyan Yatra flagged off

JAMMU, Nov 30: The Vigyan Yatra, falling under the aegis of India International Science Festival (IISF) 2020, was flagged off through virtual mode today by Vigyan Parishad.
It is a part of 6th India International Science Festival (IISF) 2020, which is annually conducted jointly by the Ministry of Science & Technology (DST), and Council of Scientific and Industrial Research(CSIR), Government of India, and Vijnana Bharati (VIBHA).
IISF-2020 is being organized through virtual mode from December 22 – 25. Since the programme is not being held in its physical form, the Government has decided to have it in the form of a Yatra, starting from Jammu, Thiruvananthapuram, Guwahati and Pune, the four corner cities of the directional zones.
Programme initiation was presented by Jayant Sahasrabudhe, National Organising Secretary, VIBHA , who apprised the participants about the rationale of Vigyan Yatra and emphasized on taking science to common people in simple language and understandable mode.
Prof Rajni Kant, President, VIBHA, Prant J&K, in his presidential address, offered his tributes to Dr Jagadish Chandra Bose on his 162nd birth anniversary and focussed on the need of interdisciplinary approach in sciences. He said this yatra should not stop until it reaches every corner of J&K.
In sync with the theme of IISF, the programme theme was kept as Atmanirbhar J&K – the way ahead in the field of traditional and Ayurvedic system of medicines as a way of life .
Dr Sumeet Gairola, Senior Scientist, CSIR-IIIM, Jammu gave lecture on Medicinal and aromatic plants cultivation in J&K and how the potential can be harvested in making our region self-sustaining.
Dr Anil K Mahajan, Fellow, Institute of Indian Medicines and Former Scientist, Ministry of Ayush, threw light on the Ayurvedic heritage of J&K- especially during the Dogra rule. He exhibited a book of that era which is a rare collection of its kind.
Dr Naresh Arora, Ayurvedic Consultant, Himalayan Ayurvedic Treatment and Research Centre, enlightened participants about utility of Ayurveda in the present context.
The programme was hosted by Prof Pawanesh Abrol, University of Jammu, and anchored by Dr Dhiraj Vyas, Secretary, VIBHA, JK Prant. The programme was attended by office bearers of VIBHA, Prof Praveen Lehana, Dr Deepak Beyotra, Dr Tinny Sawhney, Pankaj Gupta, scientists, educationists, scholars, students, teachers and members of the civil society.
