Opposition leaders divested of security under BJP’s pressure: Harshdev

JAMMU, Nov 15: Former Minister and Panthers Party chairman, Harshdev Singh today claimed that the leaders of the opposition parties were deprived of the requisite security cover even as the maiden District Development Council (DDC) elections are scheduled to start later this month.
He also alleged that security categorisation of political and other vulnerable people in the Union Territory was decided by the authorities concerned on the basis of political affiliations.
“Not only the contesting candidates of opposition parties but their top leadership has also been divested of their due security cover. And while the lower rung workers of BJP have been provided with huge paraphernalia of security staff, the heads of recognized opposition parties in J&K are being deliberately exposed to the threats of militants by withdrawing even their existing security covers,” said Harshdev Singh while addressing several new entrants who joined the party.
Those joining JKNPP, were led by Ghulam Hussain of Mendhar, who recently retired as Financial Advisor in J&K Govt and several others from Mendhar and Kishtwar blocks.
If the petty workers of BJP can be given security vehicles and paraphernalia of security staff and PSOs with escorts, why are the non-BJP leaders despite threat perception being deprived and divested of security cover?” questioned Mr Singh and said that only recently the Hizbul Mujahideen had issued threats to political persons of J&K but the sycophant authorities and a highly biased security organization of UT had failed to even seek the views of the opposition leaders who faced threat to their lives from such terror organizations. It could be a conspiracy of the ruling party leaders to get rid of the non-BJP leaders in J&K by denying them requisite security, observed the NPP Chairman.
Urging upon the civil society to support NPP in the ongoing elections, Mr Singh said that regional party alone was the solution to the woes and sufferings of the people. He said that the local issues could be better addressed by a regional party alone. “And NPP being the only recognized political party of Jammu region could better dispense justice to the hitherto neglected province of Jammu,” he added.
Gagan Pratap Singh, Capt Anil Gour (State Secretaries), Parshotam Singh Parihar (State Secy PTU) and Surinder Chouhan (District President Jammu -Rural) were also present on the occasion.
