JAMMU, Oct 20: Dalit OBC Minority (DOM) has appealed the Lt Governor Manoj Sinha for upgrading educational infrastructure as well as mass promotion of Kashmiri students.
Addressing a press conference their head office, Resham Ghar Colony (Jammu), DOM leaders said that various student bodies have been protesting for last few days for getting admissions in the various colleges for undergraduate courses via open admission for Cluster Colleges whereas students in Kashmir are also on the streets demanding mass promotion to 12th class as has been done in Jammu.
RK Kalsotra, Incharge DOM and J&K president of the Confederation said that it is shameful that the students have to come on roads in order to get access to education. Kalsotra highlighted that it is the failure of the planners of the Government who could not plan the delivery of higher education to the students of J&K.
He said that the New Education Policy is to be implemented from next year and it promises quality education to all. But without access to colleges, how will students get quality education, he questioned. Stating that most of the students who fail to secure seats are from poor SC, ST, OBC and minority communities, Kalsotra appealed the LG to look into the matter and upgrade the infrastructure for higher education in the UT so that all those who aspire for higher education can get it.
Inder Mohinder Tar Singh, chairman, Council for Civil Liberties said that if class 12th students have been given mass promotion, then Kashmir based students should also be promoted.
Harass Singh Kranti, chairman, J&K Sikh Council said that students should not be denied admissions especially in times of COVID pandemic. He said that the administration should come up with a phased plan to accommodate students who couldn’t get through the merit lists.
