JAMMU, Sept 1: The employees of Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) wing of the Social Welfare Department including Anganwadi Workers and Helpers are without salary/ remuneration for the last 13 months.
In a meeting of the Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Union, Jammu region held here today under the leadership of its president, Suman Suri, the speakers expressed strong resentment against the attitude of the top officers in the Social Welfare Department. They termed the stance of the officers at the helm of affairs as sheer exploitation and harassment of these women workers.
Suman Suri, president of the Union said that the Union took up the matter with the senior officers including CDPOs concerned, Programme Officers/ District heads and even the Mission Director, ICDS J&K several times but they only gave hollow assurances. She claimed that the department has failed to clear the wages/ salary of the workers and helpers from February 2020 to August 2020 and also the pending wages from February 2018 to July 2028. She said the helpless workers/ helpers were facing starvation during these hard days of Covid-19 in view of non-release of their wages. The Union sought intervention of Lt Governor MK Sinha and Chief Secretary of the J&K UT into the matter.
