JAMMU, Aug 10: As 956 pilgrims paid obeisance at the holy cave shrine of Shri Amarnath Ji in South Kashmir Himalayas of Anantnag district today, the total number of yatris visiting the shrine this year so far has reached 2,77,215.
The yatra is progressing smoothly on both the tracks but rush of pilgrims has declined considerably as compared to first month of the pilgrimage as number of the yatra has come down below four digit mark per day.
Meanwhile, a group of 269 pilgrims left for the holy Amarnath cave shrine from the base camp of Yatri Niwas here today, sources said.
The trend of decrease in number of yatris has been attributed to the early melting of the naturally formed Ice Shivlingam at the sanctum sanctorum.
The fresh batch left from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in a fleet of 15 vehicles under tight security.
The yatra is scheduled to conclude on August 26 coinciding with Raksha Bandhan festival and Sharavan Purnima.
