SRINAGAR, May 7: With the killing of Hizb commander Saddam Padder, now only Anees, alias Lateef Tiger of Burhan Wani gang has survived as one of them had surrendered last year.
The photograph that went viral on social media in June 2015, 11 local militants had posed along with arms and ammunition, with Burhan in the Centre.
With Saddam Paddar’s killing, nine members of the group of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani have been eliminated. Out of the 11 militants in Burhan’s core group, nine have been killed, while the lone survivor is in jail. The lone survivor, Tariq Pandit had surrendered in 2016.
Now only one militant, who is alive from the group is Lateef Ahmad Dar alias Lateef Tiger and he hailed from Dogripora, Pulwama . He is currently associated with Hizb commander Riyaz Naikoo.
Killing of Burhan on July 7, 2016, in an encounter in the Kokernag area of South Kashmir plunged the Valley into several months of unrest.
Burhan Wani, the poster boy of the group was killed by security forces on July 8, 2016, in South Kashmir’s Kokernag in Anantnag district.
Adil Khanday, 20, was killed in an encounter by security forces in South Kashmir’s Shopian district on October 22, 2015.
Naseer Pandit and Waseem Malla, both the top Hizbul Mujahideen militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Shopian on April 7, 2016.
Afaq Bhat, son of a policeman, was killed in an encounter at Drabgam, Pulwama on October 26, 2015.
Sabzar Bhat, who succeeded Burhan Wani as Hizbul Mujahideen commander, was killed in an encounter on May 27, 2017, in South Kashmir’s Tral area of Pulwama.
Ishfaq was killed in an encounter in Pulwama on May 7, 2016.
Wasim Shah, who took over as Hizbul Mujahideen commander and later joined Lashkar-e-Toiba, was killed in an encounter in Pulwama on October 14, 2017.
And Saddam Hussain Paddar, school dropout from Shopian, was killed yesterday in Shopian along with his four associates.
