UDHAMPUR, Feb 14: Police today seized over 9 kg of poppy straw (bhukki) from two smugglers who were transporting the consignment in a truck from Kashmir to Jammu.
Based on specific inputs, a police team led by SHO Udhampur Deepak Jasrotia laid a surprise naka on the National Highway near Jakhani and intercepted one suspicious truck bearing registration number PB02DU-9945. Two smugglers who were travelling in the said truck, tried to flee from the spot but were overpowered by Police.
During through search of the said truck, 9 kg poppy straw was recovered from the tyre tubes. Police seized the consignment as well as the truck.
Identity of the arrested smugglers was established as Sarbjeet Singh of Fategarh Churian Punjab and Romesh Kumar of Gurbaksh Nagar Amritsar.
A case FIR number 62/2014-U/S 8/15 NDPS Act has been registered in this connection at Police Station Udhampur.
