9 injured by banned kite thread

JAMMU, Sept 5: Nine persons including a cop of J&K police were today injured, some of them seriously in City and its outskirts, due to Chinese kite thread, which despite being banned by the district administration, has been readily available in the market without any check and is being sold by some shopkeepers on the board.
Out of the nine cases reported today in Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Jammu the three seriously injured persons were Head Constable of J&K police, Vikram Singh of Samba, Naresh Kumar, son of Om Parkash of Jindra and Dheeraj Singh of Resham Ghar Colony.
The Head Constable Vikram Singh (50) son of Midan Singh of Bari (Samba), posted at police post Greater Kailash suffered a serious throat injury this afternoon by Chinese thread (Gattu) at Bikram Chowk while he was moving on a two-wheeler, the spokesman said.
The profusely bleeding cop was immediately shifted to the Government Medical College and Hospital where he was operated on.
Naresh Kumar of Jindra also met with an accident due to Chinese kite thread and badly injured his face while Dheeraj Singh from Resham Ghar Colony also received serious injuries by Chinese kite flying thread and had to be given a numb of stitches.
Others who were injured today due to kite threads include Haresh Kumar who got five stitches on his finger, Sanjeev Sawhney (a journalist) who also got injuries on his hand near Maheshpura Chowk, Sanjay Kumar of Pounichak who got serious injuries on his neck and a girl namely Anamika of Shiv Nagar whose one finger was chopped by the kite string while the identity of two others could not be ascertained.
According to the reports, more than 51 cases of injuries due this banned kite thread were reported collectively in both GMCH Jammu and Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar on the day of Raksha Bandhan and on Janamashtmi today.
Though authorities in Jammu have imposed a ban on the Chinese strings yet some shopkeepers continue to sell it without any check from the concerned authorities. However, District Magistrate took an initiative on August 25, raided some shops and seized 55 rolls of Chinese plastic thread, with the help of Additional DC and the social workers, the enforcement agencies like police remain totally ineffective in enforcing the ban on Chinese kite thread and stop the sale and purchase of this toxic Chinese waste.
“Human injuries are visible and in these cases be treatable but the injuries or casualties suffered by our environment because of this toxic plastic thread, which we dup every in our soil, remains forever and gradually destroy its fertility,” source said.
