KATRA, Jan 18: Katra Police today arrested nine gamblers and a drug peddler besides recovering 300 grams poppy straw from the latter.
On a specific information, a Police Team from Police Station Katra, headed by SHO Sunil Sharma, raided and apprehended nine gamblers red handed.
The arrested accused were identified as Kuldeep Singh, Chanchal Singh, Himmat Singh, Romal Singh, Mohinder Singh (all residents of Kotli), Deepak Kumar of Chamyara, Dass of Bengal (at present Katra), Om Dutt of Himachal Pradesh (at present Railway Colony Katra and Lehar Singh of Inder Gali from Sihar Dabbri, Katra.
During raid, playing cards and stake money worth Rs 53700/- were recovered from the accused, who were busy gambling at an open place at Sihar Dabbri.
Meanwhile, in another success by the Katra Police, I/C Naka Moori, ASI Thakur Dutt Sangra, arrested a drug peddler and recovered 300 grams poppy straw from his possession.
During routine naka checking, Police stopped a vehicle bearing Registration number JK02BG- 1000, which was coming towards Katra from Dansal side. Poppy straw like substance, weighing about 300 grams was recovered from the vehicle.
Driver of the vehicle was identified as Nand Lal, son of Chuni Lal of Katroi, Dansal District Jammu. A case under relevant section has been registered in this connection.
