NEW DELHI : A total of 89 candidates including five sitting MLAs from Congress and BJP filed nominations today for the Delhi Assembly polls scheduled for December 4.
The office of the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer said that 89 candidates belonging to over two dozen parties, like AAP, Congress, BJP, BSP, and CPI, JD (U) along with Independents, filed nominations in nine electoral districts of Delhi.
EC received 143 applications as some parties as well as independents filed multiple applications.
As many 198 people have so far filed nominations for the Assembly polls after the process began on November 9.
Congress MLA Arvinder Singh Lovely along with his wife Gurveen Kaur filed nominations from Gandhi Nagar Constituency, while his party colleagues Hari Shankar Gupta, Amrish Singh Gautam and Hasan Ahmed filed their papers from Wazirpur, Kondli and Mustafabad respectively.
BJP MLA Jai Bhagwan Aggarwal filed his nomination from Rohini Constituency. Pravesh Sahib Singh, son of former Delhi Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma, filed his papers from Mehrauli constituency.
Out of 89 candidates, 15 were from BJP, eight from Congress and four were from AAP. (Agencies)
