80 yrs old patient gets new lease of life at Narayana Hospital

JAMMU, July 1: Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Super Speciality Hospital provided new lease of life to an 80 years old patient by performing a complex surgery called Inferior Vena Cave Filter (IVCP) implant surgery.
Banso Devi (80) was admitted at the Hospital owing to leg swelling and shortness of breath. After completing detailed investigation and evaluation by the team of doctors, found that she was suffering from left lower limb “Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)”. The DVT occurs when a blood clot forms in one or more of the deep veins in one’s body.
Dr Nikhil Mahajan (Consultant Cardiologist) said that the patient was very critical, in fact her clot was moving towards the lungs. “Owing to the repeated use of blood thinners the patient had also developed bleeding leaving us to perform IVC filter implant surgery emergency,” said Mahajan, adding that however, the surgery was complex but due to owning to the availability of state-of-the-art facility and expert team, the surgery was successful.
Dr Rakesh Sashimi (Medical Superintendent) said that the IVC filter implant surgery was a complex surgery but the team due to their expertise were able to perform it successfully.
