SRINAGAR, May 9: In a shocking incident, an 8-year-old has been allegedly given an expired injection at District Hospital, Bandipora while the hospital authorities denied the allegation terming it baseless.
As per details, Suhail Ahmad Bhat, hailing from the Ajas area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora took his son to the hospital after he was not feeling well and upon reaching the hospital, the patient was attended to by a doctor on duty.
“The doctor attended to the patient and prescribed an injection named Ondem apart from other medicines,” a relative of the patient told Excelsior.
He said that the father of the patient got the injection from the hospital drug counter and took the same to a member of paramedical staff who then did the needful.
“Our son was lucky enough as the nurse who was loading the injection had a glimpse of it and informed that the injection had expired,” the family members said.
The family said that the drug counter did not have the Ondem and that they gave them Metclopramide which was accordingly handed over to the staff to be administered.
“We checked the manufacturing date of the injection and it turned out to have expired; the shelf-life of the injection had ended on March 2022,” the family members said.
However, the hospital authorities told Excelsior that the injection has not been issued from the hospital counter and that they do not know where the attendant has gotten the injection.
“The injection has not been issued from our counter and we don’t know where the attendant has got the same. There is no entry of the same at the counter. When the nurse loaded the injection, the attendant asked her to hand it over, in a way the attendant knew that it had expired; it does not seem right,” Medical Superintendent of DH Bandipora, Dr Shiekh Mushtaq told Excelsior.
He said that in this regard, they have submitted a detailed report to the concerned, however, the family members have denied the allegation and said that they will complain to the police in this regard.
“Why can’t they check the CCTV footage and ascertain whether the father of the patient got the injection from the counter or not,” the family said.
The family members have urged the concerned authorities in the district to look into the matter and ensure those guilty are brought to book. “When we reported the issue to the in-charge of drug counter, he instead threatened the attendant,” the family said.
