JAMMU : At least eight people were killed and two injured when a passenger taxi they were travelling in skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge in mountainous Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir.
“A taxi on way from Dragdol to Kishtwar this morning at around 0800 hrs skidded off the road when the driver failed to negotiate a sharp turn and it fell into a deep gorge near Panjrari in Dachhan area,” police spokesman here today said. He said eight people died on the spot while two others got injured.
“Police and other officials have rushed to the spot and launched the rescue operation,” he said and added that the injured are being shifted to the district hospital while more details are awaited as it is a far flung area and the contact with the officials is not being easily established.
