8 drug peddlers arrested with poppy straw, cannabis

JAMMU, Apr 28: Eight drug peddlers have been arrested along with large quantity poppy straw and cannabis.
As per police sources, joint team of Police Post Narwal led by SI Khayatimaan Khajuria and SOG Jammu led by SI Arjun Magotra during routine checking intercepted a truck bearing registration number JK13B-2325.
During checking, the team recovered 430 kilograms of poppy straw and arrested two persons, who have been identified as Janbaz Ahmed Sheikh, son of Bashir Ahmed Sheikh and Mubashar Rashid, son of Abdul Rashid Naik, both residents of District Kulgam.
Meanwhile, a team from Police Post Narwal led by SI Khyatimaan Khajuria stopped a truck bearing registration number JK05C-6797 near Rajeev Nagar and during checking around 33 kilograms of poppy straw was recovered.
Three persons were arrested on the spot, who have been identified as Nazir Ahmed Dar, son of Mohammad Maqbool, Basit Akbar, son of Mohammad Akbar and Mumtaz Ahmed, son of Abdul Rashid, trio residents of District Baramulla.
In another similar incident, a team from Batote Police Station led by SHO Inspector Nazir Ahmed under supervision of DySP Headquarters Ramban Asgar Malik, Additional SP Sanjay Parihar and SSP Ramban Anita Sharma laid a naka and intercepted a truck bearing registration number HR37D-5567.
On thorough search of the vehicle, police team recovered 300 kilograms of poppy straw concealed in 12 gunny bags from the vehicle and arrested one person, who has been identified as Nazir Ahmed, son of Nittu Gujjar of Himachal Pradesh.
However, a team from Ramban Police Station led by SHO Inspector Vijay Kotwal under the supervision of DySP Headquarters Ramban Asgar Ali Malik, Additional SP Ramban Sanjay Parihar and SSP Ramban Anita Sharma during checking intercepted 2 vehicles bearing registration numbers DL4CAP-7336 and DL4CND-2099.
During checking, police team recovered 18 kilograms of cannabis from the vehicles and arrested two persons, who have been identified as Mohammad Qasim and Mohammad Karim Sheikh, both residents of Mumbai Maharashtra.
Cases under relevant sections have been registered at Bahu Fort, Batote and Ramban Police Stations and investigation started.
