RAJOURI, May 7: At least eight domestic animals were charred to death after a house and adjoining cattle-shed caught fire in Gundi area of Khawas tehsil of Rajouri district on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.
Official sources said that under suspicious circumstances, a Kuccha house and a cattle-shed burnt to ashes and eight animals also died in the tragic incident due to burn injuries. The incident took place when the house owner, Mohammad Farooq was sleeping in his house along with other family members. The suddenly fire broke out in the cattle shed of the house under suspicious circumstances. By the time people could arrive and control the fire, a terrible fire had engulfed the wooden cattle shed, and the adjoining house of the poor villager.
Hearing the sounds from the cattle shed Farooq ran outside along with his family and saved his family members lives, but by then 8 buffaloes and other animals in the cattle shed got burnt in the fire and died a painful death. In the remote Gundi village, there was no fire brigade facility, the local people started extinguishing the fire at their own with the help of police, but by the time the fire was brought under control, the cattle shed had become a pile of ashes and most of the goods had also burnt.
The victim and the people at the village appealed to the district administration for help. The police has taken cognizance of the matter.
