KATRA, May 14: The two-day meeting of Programme Advisory Committee (PAC) on Himalayan Glaciology, being held at School of Innovation & Community Development (SICD), SMVD University on behalf of Science & Engineering Research Board (SERB), Department of Science & Technology, GOI, was inaugurated today by Prof S K Jain, Vice Chancellor, SMVD University.
Speaking on the occasion Prof Jain exhorted the faculty members to take advantage of various funding opportunities of DST, GOI.
Prof Anil V Kulkarni, visiting Scientist from Divecha Centre for Climate Change, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and Chairman of the PAC, highlighted the achievements that have been made in the area of glaciology research in the country after the formation of the PAC a few years back.
Dr P Sanjeeva Rao, Scientist G Science and Engineering Research Board, Department of Science & Technology, Technology Bhawan, New Delhi, gave detailed presentation on the mandate of SERB and various schemes that have been initiated for funding Science and Technology based R&D activities in the Country.
Earlier Prof D Mukhopadhyay, Dean Faculty of Management and Dr S K Wanchoo, Coordinator for the programme and Director I/c SICD, presented welcome address and spoke on the occasion.
Some of the eminent attendees of this 7th PAC meeting, included Dr Ajai, Brahm Prakash, Professor, Space Application Centre, ISRO, Ahmedabad; Prof A L Ramanathan, School of Environmental Sciences, JNU, New Delhi; Arun Chaturvedi, Director, Glaciology Division, Geological Survey of India, Lucknow; Ashwagosha Ganju, Director, Snow and Avalanche Study Establishment, DRDO, Chandigarh; Dr U K Sharma, DST, GOI, New Delhi and Dr Harish Chandra Nainwal, HNBG Univeristy, Uttarakhand.
