70 kgs poppy straw seized, 2 smugglers arrested

UDHAMPUR, Jan 20: Continuing its offensive to contain the spread of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, Udhampur Police today seized another consignment of 70 kgs poppy straw from inter-State narcotic smugglers, who were also arrested.
Giving details, SSP Udhampur Rajiv Pandey said that, based on reliable information in another narcotic catch, a party of PS Udhampur, led by SHO Sanjeev Singh Chib, under the supervision of Zahid Saif Wani, DySP HQs, laid a naka at Jakheni and intercepted a truck bearing registration number PB10FV- 5364.
During search, 70 kgs poppy straw was recovered from the vehicle. Police arrested driver of the truck and his associate, who were identified as Pardeep Singh, son of Malkeet Singh of Umedpur Ludhiana and Amanpreet Singh, son of Dilbagh Singh of Tanda Hoshiarpur, Punjab.
The recovered poppy straw as well as the truck were seized while a case FIR No. 24/19 U/S 8/15 NDPS has been registered in this regard at PS Udhampur.
With this consignment, Udhampur Police succeeded in the recovery of 385 kgs poppy straw during the current month.
