12th class student killed in Poonch

JAMMU, Apr 30: In a major retaliatory action by the Indian Army to silence the Pakistani guns targeting forward defence and civilian locations along the Line of Control (LoC) in the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch, at least seven Pakistani troopers were killed and three others injured. A 12th class student was killed and another injured in Pakistani shelling in civilian areas in Mankote sector of Poonch district.
Pakistani troops targeted defence posts in Nowshera sector of Rajouri district last night and forward locations and populated villages in Mankote sector of Poonch district today prompting the Indian Army to retaliate effectively to silence the enemy guns.
Sources said at least seven Pakistan army personnel were killed and three others injured opposite Nowshera and Mankote sectors during last two days. Number of Pakistani posts and bunkers were damaged.
“Pakistan army had brought militants to the terror launch pads located close to their posts on the LoC across Nowshera, Mankote and Mendhar sectors of Rajouri and Poonch districts and resorted to shelling and firing on Army posts and civilian locations with a view to give covering fire to the militants,” sources said, adding the Indian Army anticipated the Pakistan plan and launched counter offensive to thwart infiltration attempts and teach Pakistani troops a lesson.
In the Indian retaliation, at least seven Pakistan army personnel have been killed and three others injured.
There were reports that the militants who had been brought to launch pads fled to their bases following strong Indian reply to Pakistan shelling and firing.
Meanwhile, a 12th class student was killed and another civilian injured in Pakistan army shelling and firing on the LoC in Mankote sector of Poonch district this evening.
The deceased has been identified as Gulfaraz, 18, son of Mohammad Rashid, a resident of village Tain in Mankote sector of Poonch district. He was a student of Class 12th. Injured was identified as Zaffar Iqbal, 38, son of Mohammad Rashid of Mankote.
Police parties and civilians evacuated the dead and injured from the village and shifted them to the hospital where 12th class students was declared as brought dead while the injured was admitted for treatment.
There was panic among the villagers over heavy shelling and firing by the Pakistan army on the civilian areas. The people have confined themselves to bunkers, wherever available, and deep inside houses.
The Indian Army retaliated the Pakistan shelling and firing effectively which continued till tonight at some places.
However, there were no casualties and damages on the Indian Army side in Pakistan shelling and firing.
