UDHAMPUR, Dec 18: Udhampur Police today seized seven kg poppy straw and arrested the accused, who was smuggling the same in a vehicle, which was intercepted at Jakhani.
According to the reports based on reliable information, a police party led by SHO Udhampur Vijay Singh Choudhary, under the supervision of SSP Udhampur Rajeev Pandey, laid a naka near Jakhani and intercepted one Innova vehicle (Binger) bearing registration number DL3CE-1333.
During thorough search, seven kg of poppy straw was recovered from the vehicle. Police arrested the driver, identified as Shaine Ahmed Bhatt, son of Nazeer Ahmed Bhatt of Pulwama Kashmir, who was smuggling poppy straw from Kashmir Valley towards Jammu.
Police also seized the recovered poppy straw as well as the vehicle and registered a case in this connection under section 8/15 NDPS Act at Police Station Udhampur.
