7 injured as Tavera plunges into gorge

RAMBAN, July 6: Seven people, including four women, were injured when the Tavera in which they were travelling in plunged into a 150-feet deep gorge near Tulbagh Kharpora area of tehsil Banihal along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
The vehicle was on its way to Srinagar from Jammu when it met with the accident. The driver was overspeeding and lost control of the vehicle that skidded off the road and plunged into the gorge.
On getting information, police team along with army personnel, locals and NGO Banihal volunteers immediately rushed to the spot and started rescue operation.
All the seven injured persons were rescued and shifted to Sub District Hospital (SDH) Banihal, from where three were referred to GMC Anantnag for specialised treatment.
The injured were identified as Abid Ahmad Dar (driver) of Srinagar, Jehangir Ahmad and his brother Farooq Ahmad of Ramsoo, Hafiza Begum and her sister Aliza Bano of Sherbibi and Shakeela Bano and her sister Shazia Bano.
A case under relevant sections has been registered at Police Station Banihal and investigation started.
