7 fraudsters booked by Crime Branch

JAMMU, July 23: Crime Branch has registered a criminal case against seven persons for their involvement in the offences of cheating, fraud and criminal conspiracy.
According to the case, a complaint on behalf of Sikander Hayat, son of Mohd Yousaf, Sikander Hussain, son of Abdul Ghani, Mushtaq Hussain, son of Mohd Younis, Mohd Aksar, son of Mohd Talib, residents Rajouri, Mohd Azam, son of Mohd Rafiq of Koteranka and Mohd Alyas, son of Mohd Yousaf of Jaglanoo duly endorsed by Special Municipal Mobile, Judicial Magistrate Ist Class, Jammu under Section 156 (3) CrPC was received in Crime Branch.
In the complaint, it was alleged that on May 19, 2010 they visited Jammu and came to know about the religious activities of one Mohd Ashraf Pir, who was residing in the house of Mamta Devi alias Chanchla Devi, wife of Jasbir Singh at Akalpur near Vishwav Bharti School.
Accordingly, the complainants met Mohd Ashraf and narrated their miseries to him on which they were told that Mamta Devi, her husband Jasbir Singh, daughter Sonia and Neelam Devi, wife of Harnam Singh were having political links and can manage Government jobs for the complainants.
When the complainants approached Mamta Devi and others, they were told that permanent jobs for them in the Social Forestry Department could be managed in lieu of Rs 3 lakh each. On receiving amount from the complainants, the accused persons handed over them the orders of their appointment as Plantation Watcher. The accused persons also got published the select list in the Morning Time Newspaper dated December 13, 2010 but when the complainants approached the concerned department for joining, they came to know that the appointment orders were fake and forged.
On the receipt of complaint, an enquiry was initiated in Crime Branch and it was established that Mamta Devi in connivance with other co-accused persons hatched a criminal conspiracy and in pursuance to that they fraudulently prepared fictitious appointment orders of Plantation Watcher in Social Forestry Department shown to have been issued by the Divisional Forest Officer, Social Forestry Division, Srinagar and Chief Conservator of Forests, Srinagar in favour of the complainants.
It was also established that the accused charged Rs 2,50,000 from each candidate and in this way they cheated the complainants. On the basis of preliminary investigation, a case has been registered at Crime Branch against the accused persons.
Besides Mohd Ashraf Hafiz, Mamta Devi, Jasbir Singh, Sonia and Neelam Devi, the case has also been registered against Mohd Yousaf Wani and Abdul Qayoom of Srinagar, who also helped Mamta in cheating the complainants.
