JAMMU, Aug 23: Seven food business operators were challaned in various parts under the Municipal limits of Jammu for violation of Food Safety rules by a Food Safety team.
In a week-long inspection which was carried out in view of the Janmashtami Festival, the team led by Assistant Commissioner, Food Safety, Jammu, Dr Parvesh Kumar, conducted inspections at various food outlets including sweet shops, bakery shops, dhabas, etc.
During the drive, six vendors were challaned for insanitary and unhygienic conditions and other contraventions of Food Safety & Standards Act 2006. Amongst those challaned were Shudh Vaishno Dhaba, Sarwal Chowk, M/s Sodhi Fast Food, Sarwal Chowk, Momos Rehri of Kali Dass Sharma at Sarwal Chowk, M/s Sodhi namkeens, Sarwal Chowk and M/s Bharat Chicken Corner, Sarwal Chowk. Besides, the canteen of Government Women College, Parade was also challaned for insanitary and unhygienic conditions.
The team also lifted samples of cooked/raw food from various shops. From Mahajan Traders, Sarwal, the team lifted sample of Mustard oil while it lifted samples of Veg Momos from Puran Momos Shop, Sarwal Chowk, Burfi from M/s Kross Ways Sweets, Kachi Chawani and sweet meat from M/s Sain Ji Di Hatti, Pacca Danga. All the samples were sent to the Food Testing Laboratory Jammu for ascertaining standard of purity.
Further during the inspection, the team made the vendors aware of Food Safety rules and importance of maintaining hygiene. The food vendors were also warned not to prepare unhealthy food otherwise strict legal action shall be initiated against the violators. The team also advised public to check each and every eatable before they consume.
The drive was conducted by Food Safety Officers– Ajay Khajuria, Hans Raj Andotra and Pervaiz Ahmed under the overall supervision of Commissioner, FDA, J&K, Vinod Sharma.
