7 deaths, record 6568 fresh COVID +ve cases in J&K

179 fresh positives in Ladakh

JAMMU/SRINAGAR/ LEH, Jan 22: Jammu and Kashmir today created fresh record by logging highest-ever 6568 COVID positive while seven persons succumbed to the virus.
Jammu region recorded 1875 cases and five casualties while Kashmir reported two fatalities and 4693 cases. The UT of Ladakh logged 179 new cases.
Out of five COVID casualties in Jammu division today, two were reported from Jammu district and one each in Reasi, Rajouri and Kishtwar districts.
A 55-year-old man hailing from village Bissi in Pouni area of Reasi district died of co-morbidities and COVID-19 in the Government Medical college (GMC) Jammu while 68-year-old man from Gangyal and an unknown person also succumbed to ailments and virus in the GMC Jammu.
A 75-year-old man from Dodaj in Darhal area of Rajouri district, who was also co-morbid and infected by COVID-19, passed away in 150 GH Rajouri while 70-year-old man from near Post Office Kishtwar died of virus in the District Hospital Kishtwar.
Barring Darhal man and unknown person, all were fully vaccinated. Kishtwar man had no co-morbidity.
Five casualties have taken Corona toll in Jammu division to 2246 including 1182 in Jammu district, 243 in Rajouri, 157 Kathua, 143 Udhampur, 139 Doda, 120 Samba, 104 Poonch, 68 Ramban and 45 each in Reasi and Kishtwar.
Fifteen pilgrims of holy cave shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi Ji tested positive for COVID-19 on their arrival at Katra Railway Station. Two persons at Sabzi Mandi Narwal and one at Jammu Convention Centre were found infected during random testing by the Health Department.
Among 1875 COVID positive cases in Jammu division, Jammu district continued to top the tally by registering cases in four digits. It reported 1236 fresh cases today followed by Doda 120, Ramban 99, Samba 91, Udhampur 78, Kathua and Rajouri 59 each, Poonch 50, Kishtwar 49 and Reasi 34.
As against 1875 fresh cases, 993 persons recovered from the virus taking number of active positive cases to 12479.
Jammu division now has 1,44,199 Corona cases. Among them, 1,29,474 have recovered from the virus while there were 2246 casualties.
Meanwhile, people in Jammu City and outskirts today alleged that some wine shops remained open while other shops and business establishments were closed.
People, who don’t want to be quoted, said as per the Government order, shops of only essential commodities are allowed to open while the wine shops at many places in Jammu remained open.
Meanwhile, the Union Territory of Ladakh today reported 179 fresh COVID positive cases including 112 in Leh district and 67 in Kargil.
This has taken number of active positive cases in Ladakh to 1101—898 in Leh and 203 in Kargil.
Meanwhile, Kashmir today reported 4693 fresh cases of COVID-19 while two persons who were suffering from infection succumbed.
With two fresh deaths the overall COVID related death toll has reached 4598 in Jammu and Kashmir including 2352 in Kashmir.
Srinagar reported 1604 cases, Baramulla 749, Budgam 643, Pulwama 230, Kupwara 320, Anantnag 243, Bandipora 418, Ganderbal 99, Kulgam 333 and Shopian 54.
Besides, 2330 Covid-19 patients recovered during the time including 1337 from Kashmir. So far 347238 people have recovered, leaving active case tally at 39113 including 26634 in Kashmir.
