7-day workshop on traditional Ladakhi folk music concludes

KARGIL, Dec 26: The seven-day training-cum-workshop on Traditional Ladakhi Folk Music Daman & Surna (Shehnai), concluded here today at Academy Hall, Baroo, Kargil with a sparkling musical show.
The workshop was organized by J&K Cultural Academy, Kargil, with the aim to revive and  promote  intangible heritage of Kargil. A large number of traditional folk musicians from different parts of Kargil attended the 7-day workshop.  This was  for  the first time in the history of Kargil that such Training cum Workshop was held  here.
Al-Haj Mohammad Haneefa Jan,  Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Kargil was the chief guest at the valedictory function while  Tsering Angdus, Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Kargil was the guest of honour.   Mohsin Ali, Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Kargil was the special guest on the occasion.
In his address, Al-Haj Muhammad Haneefa Jan  said that the  workshops would  truly benefit the Traditional Folk Musicians of Kargil. He assured to extend utmost support from Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Kargil in organizing  such workshops to boost the traditional music.
Mohsin Ali,  Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Kargil,   said that it is prime responsibility of every Ladakhi is to protect and conserve his  rich traditional and cultural values.
Urgan Lundup, Chief Executive Officer, KDA, Kargil and   Ali Muhammad (State Awardee), also spoke on the occasion.
Nazir Hussain, Deputy Secretary, J&K Cultural Academy Kargil,  highlighted the importance and relevance of the workshop.
During the workshop, experts and resource persons from Kargil district imparted training to the participants and sensitized them  how it is important to preserve the age old traditional music parallel to materialistic development.
Among others, who  spoke on the occasion, included  Gulzar Hussai Changra, Project Director, REW  Kargil;   Ajaz Munshi, Curator Munshi Aziz Bhat Museum,  Jameel Ahmad, ASP  Kargil;   Ishtyaq Ahmad Kacho, Dy  SP, Kargil;    Mohd Sadiq Hardassi,  Renowned Scholar;  Sharap Gyalson, Assistant Director,CA&PD, Kargil; . Mohd Taqi, General Manager, Industries, Kargil;  Aga Sayed Jamal, District Social Welfare Officer, Kargil;  Raza Amjad Budgami,  Jawad Jalib and large number of trainees  and guests.   Muhammad Hussain Fayaz  presented vote of thanks, while  Tsewang Rigzin, conducted  proceedings of the programme.
