7-day Police remand for 2 BJP leaders, 2 PSOs

Srinagar July 19 : A local court today remanded two BJP workers including its district president and two cops to seven days police remand in a rifle firing case.
They were arrested after an alleged firing incident at Gulgam Kupwara on Friday which was aimed at getting enhanced security and attracting more focus from the party leadership.
Police arrested four persons including Ishfaq Ahmad Mir who was said to have suffered injury in the incident, his father Mohammad Shafi who is the BJP’s district president in Kupwara and his two PSO – Riyaz Ahmed Khan of Awoora Kupwara and Mohammad Irfan of Haihama Kupwara.
Police had initially said that Ishfaq was injured in misfire from his PSOs near Gulgam on July 16 night. The BJP leader tried to pass the incident as a militant attack to get the security enhanced as well as get the added attraction from the party.
Police also detained Basharat Ahmad Mir, the BJP’s spokesman for the Kupwara in connection with the conspiracy.
A case (FIR no 251/2021, under section 307 IPC, 7/27A Act) is registered at Police Station Kupwara.
All the arrested persons were produced before the Sub Judge Kupwara who remanded them to seven days police custody.
The BJP placed under suspension District President Kupwara Mohammad Shafi soon after his arrest.
