7-day national workshop concludes at PG Deptt of Sanskrit

JAMMU, Dec 24: A seven-day national workshop on “Manuscriptology and Paleography of Indian Scripts (Brahmi, Sharada, Takari & Gurmukhi)” concluded today at PG Department of Sanskrit, University of Jammu (JU).
The workshop was organized by JU’s PG Department of Sanskrit in collaboration with Millenium India Education Foundation (MIEF), New Delhi. The workshop started on 18th December. Prof Meenakshi Kilam, Registrar, JU, Prof Ved Kumari Ghai, Prof Rampratap Vedalankar, Dr Kirtikant Sharma (IGNCA), New Delhi and faculty members were present in the inaugural session.
The first academic session begin with the lecture of Dr Kirtikant Sharma, Recourse  Person (Assistant Professor IGNCA New Delhi) on practice with Manuscripts/Inscription etc. The keynote address was delivered by Prof Ved Kumari Ghai in which she traced the history of different scripts prevalent in Northern India.
In addition, a lecture on Gurmukhi was delivered by Dr Baljeet Kour, Head, Department of Punjabi, JU and Dr Harjinder Singh from the same department. On the 4th day, Prof Veena Gupta, Ex-Head, Department of Dogri, JU delivered a lecture on Takari especially on Nave Dogri alphabets. Fifth and 6th days were fixed for practice in which all participants of different faculties did their practice (Group) work.
In the valedictory function today, Prof Kedar Nath Sharma (Head of the Department) highlighted the merits as well as progressiveness of this workshop while MS Zahid and Dr Kakroo highlighted the importance of Sharada script especially in context of J&K.
