Srinagar, Oct 4: A total of 69 Principals and Head of the Departments (HoDs) posts are lying vacant for more than last one year in different secondary schools and in District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) centres of Kashmir valley and Ladakh.
According to official data, there are 15 Higher Secondary Schools in seven districts of Kashmir Valley which are without principals. On the other hand, there are 53 DIET centres in eight districts of Valley and twin districts of Ladakh division which are without the HoDs.
As per details, two secondary schools are without principals in Anantnag district while equal numbers of secondary schools are also without principals in neighbouring Kulgam district. In Pulwama, only single secondary school is without principal.
Three higher secondary schools in Bandipora, Baramulla and Ganderbal districts are without principals. The frontier Kupwara district has three higher secondary schools that are without principals. A higher secondary school at Panikhar in Kargil district is also without principal.
According to official data, 5 DIET centres are without HoDs in Anantnag, 6 in Bandipora, 3 in Baramulla, 4 in Ganderbal, 6 in Kupwara, 6 in Kulgam, 6 in Kargil, 7 in Leh, 5 in Pulwama and 5 in Shopian. Besides these 69 posts, there are 12 DIET HoD posts in Srinagar, Ganderbal and Beerwah area of Budgam district that although are not vacant but the officials posted are not reporting to their duties.
When contacted, Education Minister Naeem Akhtar told Excelsior that the vacant posts would be fulfilled soon and the process is going on. “This is an ongoing process. We have recently filled several principal posts and we will be filling more within a week’s time,” he said. He said the officials who are not reporting on duties would also be joining soon.
