JAMMU, Oct 4: Union Minister of State in PMO Office, with Independent Charge of North Eastern States, Dr Jitendra Singh today took up the issue of undergraduate students of various colleges of Jammu demanding continuation of carry on system as is prevalent in the other universities of country.
The demand was put forth by a delegation of the students from various colleges of Jammu province who called on Union Minister here today. Dr Singh, while expressing his sympathy with the students took up the issue with Vice Chancellor JU, Dr R D Sharma on phone and urged him to sort out the issue on the same pattern prevalent in other universities of the country.
The student delegation informed Dr Singh that their career has been put at stake with the sudden decision of the JU authorities to abandon carry on system after adopting semester system from last year.
They alleged that the students at the time of seeking admissions in various streams in Government degree colleges were not informed about the abolition of carry on system and the sudden decision is not only surprising but has come a rude shock to them as this way their career has been put at stake.
They said that they met the concerned authorities in JU as well as Vice Chancellor pleading for continuation of carry on system but to no avail. They said that the VC asked them to furnish the rules that the carry on system is prevalent in the other universities of the country on the basis of which JU will also give relaxation to the students of Jammu studying in various degree colleges of the province whose examinations are conducted by the University.
The delegation informed the Dr Jitendra Singh that after submitting the copies of rules of other universities to JU authorities with the hope that the issue will be settled, the authorities failed to issue orders for the continuation of carry on system which has generated a lot of resentment among the student community.
Seeking immediate intervention of Union Minister the students appealed him to use his good offices so that they can get justice as their career is in jeopardy.
Dr Singh who took up the issue with VC asked him to look into the matter by keeping the interests of student community who is the future of the nation in view.
The students alleged that during the time of admissions to undergraduate courses last year, it was not disclosed that only those students will be promoted to third semester who pass 75 percent subjects in first semester.
Likewise the students who clear all subjects in first semester and have also passed 50 percent subjects in third and 4th semester will be given admission in fifth semester which is an injustice, they added.
The students said that they are not left with any alternative but to take to streets in case their demand is not accepted by the authorities.
