JAMMU, Feb 8: The 638th birthday of Shri Guru Ravi Dass Ji was celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety here at Rajpura Mangotrian.
A large number of devotees from different parts of Jammu region participated in the function.
Paying tributes to great saint and social reformer, Guru Ravi Dass Ji, Dev Raj Angral, president, All India Angral Biradari (AIAB) and Manmohan Singh, ex-Corporator, said that the best way of celebrating the occasion is to take a pledge to follow the teachings of Guru Ji in letter and spirit and work for building a society based on the natural principles of social justice, equality, compassion, love and togetherness.
Dwelling upon the life and teachings of Guru Ji, several speakers recalled his eventful life. They said Guru Ravi Dass Ji emerged as a beacon light at a time when the society was engulfed by darkness.
“Those were the times when fellow human beings were discriminated on the basis of caste and creed”, they said and referred to the great role played by Guru Ji in ensuring that all segments of the society live with honour and dignity.
Vijay Kumar, president, J&K Vishwakarma Sabha, Kewal Jogi, general secretary, Traders’ Association, Ram Lal Bhagat, president, J&K Bhagat Biradari and Surinder Kakkar, a social worker, were also present.
