Srinagar, June 12: Kashmir reported 601 new COVID-19 cases while six persons succumbed to the virus today taking the Jammu and Kashmir death toll to 4174.
Those who tested positive include 164 from Srinagar, Baramulla 66, Budgam 71, Pulwama 71, Kupwara 68, Anantnag 51, Bandipora 34, Ganderbal 31, Kulgam 37 and Shopian 8.
As per officials figures, 68,079 positive cases including 811 deaths and 64,910 recoveries are from Srinagar, 22,650 including 273 deaths and 20,729 recoveries are from Baramulla, 21,746 including 20,369 recoveries and 199 deaths are from Budgam, 14,365 including 12,882 recoveries and 180 deaths are from Pulwama, 13,197 including 152 deaths and 12,123 recoveries are from Kupwara, 15,463 including 14,314 recoveries and 192 deaths are from Anantnag, 8,951 cases including 8,455 and 98 deaths are from Bandipora, 9,265 including 8,712 recoveries and 72 deaths are from Ganderbal, 10,667 including 9,850 recoveries and 109 deaths are from Kulgam and 5,491 including 5,125 recoveries and 58 deaths are from Shopian.
The number of cases in Kashmir division has reached 189,875 including 177,469 recoveries and 2,144 deaths.
The number of active cases in Jammu and Kashmir are 16,284 including 10,262 from Kashmir division.
With 2,153 more recoveries, the tally of total recoveries in Jammu and Kashmir has reached 286,180, which is 93.32 percent of the total cases.
Moreover, they said, 2153 more COVID-19 patients have recovered including 1446 from Kashmir.
And in the meantime as corona cases and deaths declined in Kashmir, the Gandola services resumed partially in Gulamarg today.
Director Tourism Kashmir, Dr GN Itoo said the Gondola services have been partially resumed even as the COVID situation is being monitored. “The Gondola services will be limited only as it has been started on a trial basis. If there are more modalities to be discussed with respect to COVID situation that will be also taken care of,” Itoo said.
He added they are making sure that everything is ready from their side. “We are ensuring everything is being taken care of from our side, and whenever the Government takes a call, we should be ready to welcome tourists,” he said.
After facing two bad seasons, Tourism in Kashmir was slowly picking up in last few months, but the second wave had brought the industry to its knees.
While taking the review of COVID-19 mitigation efforts in the district, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar today ordered withholding of salary of two Zonal Medical Officers, after the review report of their respective health zones was found “poor” and “un-satisfactory.”
The performances of Health Zones in Srinagar was reviewed today and strong note was taken of two health zones, namely Khanyar and S R Gunj as both the zones had poor performance regarding the COVID-19 mitigation efforts in the district.
Acting swiftly, the official said that the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar ordered to withhold the salary of the two Zonal Medical Officers till a satisfactory vaccination is recorded.
An order issued by the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, read that the vaccination process of 45 years and above age group was reviewed today and out of all the Medical Zones, performance of Khanyar and SR Gunj Zones respectively is quite un-satisfactory.
The order further read: “The poor performance on part of Zonal Medical Officers of Medical Zones Khanyar & SR Gunj has been viewed seriously. As such, it is hereby ordered that salary of the above mentioned Zonal Medical Officers shall remain withheld till a satisfactory vaccination coverage is recorded.”
