ISLAMABAD:At least six persons were killed and 12 others injured today when a roadside bomb targeted a bus in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in Pakistan’s northwest.
Explosive material was hidden inside a bag in the vehicle parked in Peshawar Chowk of Kohat city.
Six passengers died and 12 others were injured in the blast, The News reported.
The injured have been admitted to a hospital.
The passenger van was completely destroyed in the blast while police said five kilogrammes of explosives were used, according to the report.
Nobody took responsibility for the attack but Taliban often targets civilians and security forces in the region.
Today’s was the second attack on a passenger bus in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa within a week. The first attack happened in provincial capital Peshawar, killing seven people on Thursday.
The province is witnessing what appears to be a deadly blowback to the military operation in the North Waziristan tribal region.
Pakistan launched a massive military campaign, Zarb-i-Azb, in North Waziristan in June to eliminate terrorists, following a bloody assault on Karachi airport ended faltering peace talks with the insurgents.
The militant attack on the airport killed 37 people.
The military claims it has killed nearly 1,000 militants and lost 82 soldiers since the start of the operation on June 15. (AGENCIES)
