6 hurt in stone pelting, lathi-charge in Nowshera

RAJOURI, Sept 20: At least half a dozen persons were injured in stone- pelting and police lathi-charge at Siot Morh, on Sunderbani-Nowshera road today.
The problem erupted when family members and relatives of two sisters and a police constable, killed under mysterious circumstances at Kalakote recently assisted by large number of villagers came out on Jammu Rajouri Road and tried to block it at Siot Morh. The police already had information about the protest programme of the villagers today. The  public is demanding CBI inquiry into the matter alleging that District Police  was trying to protect the  real culprits including SHO Kalakote.
As the people sat on the highway and started their protest, the police resorted to lathi-charge. Some people in the mob also resorted to stone pelting. In the clash at least six persons including an SPO were injured. The people shouted slogans against Police and District Administration Rajouri. The police however dispersed the mob and cleared the highway immediately.
Later, in the afternoon, they moved to Nowshera town and started protest before the office of SDM Nowshera. Over 250 people held strong demonstration there for about and hour and demanded that case be handed over to CBI as probe by SIT and so called judicial inquiry was just an eye wash by the Administration. They alleged that people do not have trust on these probes as nothing has come out so far.
Meanwhile, the police claimed to have arrested seven persons in connection with violence at Siot Morh today and registered a case in this connection. It also denied any lathi-charge on the protesting villagers.
