6 die in accidents, 8 hurt as mini-bus over turns

JAMMU, Feb 7: Three youth were killed in two separate road accidents in Samba and Hiranagar area, two persons died in truck accident at Ramban, a middle aged man was knocked to death at Darhal in Rajouri while at least eight persons were injured after a mini-bus turned turtle in Dhanni-Bhakhta area in Kathua district today.
A report from Samba said that two youth were killed on the spot after their two-wheeler No. JK02K/1987 collided with a tipper bearing registration No. JK02F/9337 on Jammu-Pathankote National Highway near Jatwal in Samba this evening. While one boy was crushed to death on the spot another succumbed to injuries in Samba hospital.
The deceased have been identified as Agrez Kumar, son of Rumalo and Mangu Ram residents of Jatwal. The police seized the tipper while driver managed to escape.
Two persons were killed when a truck skidded off the road and rolled down into a deep gorge near Panthal area of Ramban today.
The truck bearing registration number JKO6-2557, was on way to Jammu from Srinagar, when the driver lost control over the vehicle and it plunged into deep gorge. On receiving information, police and locals rushed to the spot and started rescue operation. They shifted them to district hospital, where doctors declared them as brought dead.
The deceased were identified as Mohd Nawaz and Rehamat Ali, sons of Safar Ali, of district Udhampur.
A bike rider Panku (26), son of Jagdish Raj and Manoj, son of Ashok Kumar of Gadiyali village near Hiranagar were injured after their speeding bike fell down from bridge near Hiranagar late last night. Both were returning from a marriage function. While Panku was killed on the spot, his associate was rushed to Kathua hospital. The police shifted the body of the deceased to Hiranagar Hospital and later handed over to the family for last rites. They also registered a case in this connection.
Meanwhile, one Abdul Qayoom (37), son of Shah Mohd resident of Darhal was critically injured after he was hit by an unknown vehicle near Iqbal Gate in Darhal area of Rajouri today. The injured was rushed to local hospital where doctors declared him as dead. The locals and family members lodged their protest with the police and demanded immediate arrest of the accused driver.
A report from Kathua said that eight villagers were injured after a mini-bus No. JK08C/4831 turned turtle in Dhanni-Bhakhta area today. The vehicle was on way to Kathua from Bhakhta village when the mishap occurred. The injured were shifted to Kathua hospital while the driver escaped. The police has taken cognizance of the matter.
