Two COVID-19 patients die, tally 96

SRINAGAR, June 29: Two COVID-19 positive persons from Kashmir today died at SMHS hospital in Srinagar taking the Jammu and Kashmir death tally to 96 while a 6-day-old baby, three CRPF men and two Army soldiers were among 97 people who tested positive for COVID-19.
A 65-year-old COVID-19 positive man from Shopian district died at SMHS hospital here. A resident of Sugan Shopian, he was admitted to SMHS hospital in Srinagar yesterday and was sampled the same day. He was hypertensive and had breathlessness besides other ailments. He died this afternoon.
A 45-year-old man from Bijbehara in district Anantnag with bilateral pneumonia died at SMHS hospital this afternoon, a day after he was admitted here.
With these two deaths, the number of fatalities in J&K has now gone up to 96 including 11 from Jammu division and 84 from the Valley.
Srinagar district with 22 deaths has the highest fatalities followed by Baramulla 15, Kulgam 13, Shopian 11, seven each from Jammu, Budgam and Anantnag, Kupwara 5, Pulwama four while one death each has been reported from Bandipora, Poonch, Doda, Udhampur and Rajouri.
Medical Superintendent SKIMS Soura, Dr Farooq Jan, told Excelsior that 1833 samples were processed at the viral diagnostic laboratory and 67 tested positive for the virus.  Among the positive cases, he said, 29 are from Pulwama, 16 from Shopian, 13 from Anantnag, three from CRPF Battalions, two from Srinagar and one each from Baramulla, Kupwara, Ganderbal and Kulgam.
Principal SKIMS Bemina, Dr Riyaz Untoo, told Excelsior that 572 samples processed at the hospital’s lab and eight tested positive for COVID-19. They all are from Srinagar.
And an official said that 476 samples were processed at the Chest Diseases hospital laboratory and 22 tested positive for the virus. They include 6-day-old baby from Khansahib Budgam, and two soldiers from Army’s Badami Bagh Cantonment. The baby’s sample was taken from GB Pant Hospital Srinagar.
And 214 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and were discharged from various hospitals in Kashmir.
