This has reference to the news items regarding Rice trucks go missing in J&K.
There is nothing new in this latest scam. This is one of scams that have surfaced time and again in the State. Earlier, some flour trucks were seized by police. The ration that was meant for people belonging to poor people of hilly areas never reached them.
The public distriction system in the State is not in tune with the present times. The Government ration depots opened in villages function at the whims and caprices of Ration dealers. They open these outlets as per their wish. It has been observed the people have to visit these shops a number of times before they could get their ration. These poor people have to be content even with less quantity of ration, as they (ration dealers) do not weigh properly. The Government must evolve a mechanism whereby it is ensured that the ration meant for poor people reaches them according to their need.
