573 PGs in J&K to undergo District Residency Program starting next month

Heads gear up for implementation of 3-month-long DRP

Srinagar, Mar 28: The Government Medical College (GMC), Srinagar – which is the coordinating authority for the District Residency Programme (DRP) – has written to the concerned, including Director SKIMS, Soura as well as the Heads of all the Departments at the institute regarding the implementation DRP across District Hospitals of Kashmir Valley urging them to ensure that the PG scholars are relieved well in time to join the mandatory programme..
In this regard, the Nodal Officer, DRP for Kashmir Division, has shot a letter with the list of all the concerned PG scholars who are to be relieved for a period of 3 months under the rotation which will take place in the 3rd or 4th or 5th semester of the Postgraduate programme.
The doctors, who have to undergo compulsory DRP in Kashmir, are nearly 350 in number while those in the Jammu division are 223 in number. The lists have been already put out by the Health & Medical Education (H&ME) Department and now the concerned have to ensure the relieving of the notified doctors starting from April this year.
“Refer to Government Order No. 717 -JK (HME) of 2022 Dated. 10-10-2022…in this connection, it is requested to implement the aforementioned Government Order in letter and spirit and the Post Graduate Scholars shall be relieved as per their roster, so that they are able to join their posting at designated District Head Quarters,” reads the letter sent by the Nodal Officer of the programme.
The same has also been sent to the Director of Health Services Kashmir/Jammu for information and necessary action with necessary directions to the Medical Superintendents of District Hospitals accordingly.
It is to be noted here that the implementation of DRP in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir, which is a compulsory Residential Rotation of three months in District Hospitals as a part of the course curriculum, was notified last year by the H&ME and will come into effect from April 1st this year.
Under the program, as per directives that have been already issued, the Director, SKIMS Soura, Srinagar, Principal Medical Colleges, Srinagar/Jammu & Principal, ASCOMS, Jammu shall ensure placement/deputation of Post Graduate Students for the District Residency Programme as per the placement schedule.
As per the officials, the Director, of Health Services, Jammu/Kashmir has been tasked to ensure providing of amenities to the District Residents, including, amongst others, suitable accommodation, and transportation to the workplace-in case they living in residential quarters which are far away from the hospital-security, especially for lady residents.
“However, this shall be provided strictly as per their entitlements under laid down rules prescribed for the purpose,” the directives for the DRP state.
During the 3 months of the program, the District residents will continue to draw their stipend/salary strictly as per their entitlements under laid down rules from their respective Medical Colleges based on attendance certificates, which will be issued by the concerned Medical Superintendent of the District Hospital where they are stationed.
