Srinagar, Apr 13: A total of 561 research papers were presented during the 52nd annual national conference of the Indian Association of Preventive & Social Medicine (IAPSMCON 2025), making it one of the largest academic congregations in public health held in J&K.
The three-day event, hosted at SKICC Srinagar from April 11 to 13, brought together public health professionals, researchers, and medical scholars from across the country, officials from the GMC Srinagar said.
The scientific presentations included 13 IAPSM award papers, 437 oral presentations-comprising 332 in-person and 105 poster-style orals-and 111 poster presentations, including 83 virtual oral and 28 virtual posters.
“These were conducted simultaneously across six parallel halls, with five dedicated to in-person sessions, one to virtual presentations, and occasional hybrid sessions in the main auditorium.”
GMC stated that the academic programme featured 11 plenary sessions and 11 expert talks in the main auditorium, tackling national and global public health challenges.
Several internationally reputed speakers joined live for high-level panel discussions and scientific deliberations, adding further weight to the academic significance of the event.
Themed “Integrative Approaches for Comprehensive Care in One-Health” with the slogan “One-Nation, One-Health, One-World,” IAPSMCON 2025 was inaugurated on April 11 by Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, Secretary, Health and Medical Education Department.
The conference was preceded by six pre-conference workshops held on April 10 at GMC Srinagar.
The valedictory ceremony took place today at SKICC and was attended by prominent dignitaries including chief guest Prof. Sachidananda Mohanty, Executive Director AIIMS Awantipora; Guest of Honour Dr. N Zaheer Ahmad, Director General, Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine; Prof. Iffat Hassan Shah, Principal GMC Srinagar and Dean, Faculty of Medicine and Allied Medical Specialties, University of Kashmir.
Mohammad Ashraf Hakak, Administrator, Associated Hospitals, GMC Srinagar, including Prof. Purushottam Giri, outgoing Secretary General, IAPSM; Dr. Meenal Thakare, outgoing Joint Secretary, IAPSM; and Dr. Inaamul Haq, Organising Secretary, IAPSMCON 2025 were also present.
Prof. B.N. Gangadhar, President of the National Medical Commission (NMC), also participated in the conference, holding one-on-one interactions with health professionals and addressing issues related to the country’s health systems and medical education reforms.
A special moment during the event was the posthumous conferment of the Lifetime Achievement Award on Prof. Muneer Ahmad Masoodi, former HoD Community Medicine, GMC Srinagar. The award was received by Zeenat Masoodi.
