NEW DELHI: Speaking at a press conference today ahead of the Sri Lanka series commencing tomorrow, skipper Virat Kohli expressed his positivity about team India’s performance besides correcting certain areas.
The Indian run machine praised all-rounder Hardik Pandya and believes Pandya has a good chance of making his Test debut. Bestowing his trust on Pandya’s capabilties Kohli commented,”We have got great balance in the side and we have got a guy like Hardik Pandya who is a wicket-taking bowler.
He has a knack of picking wickets on any surface. So, he has a great chance of playing as well.”
“That gives us a great balance. In the second and third Tests of the last tour that we played here, we included an all-rounder in the team and that made all the difference for us. We have taken lessons from that. We wills surely apply those things in this series rather than getting a feel of how things will go.
Very important to have your strike bowlers picks 20 wickets for your team.”
Expressing his views on Rohit Sharma opening in test matches he said,”Rohit has never opened in a Test cricket and we don’t see that kind of experiment happening here because we have specialist openers in the team and they will obviously be starting this game.”
The 28-year-old commented on KL Rahul’s viral fever,”Rahul is unfortunately down with fever. Luckily, it is not anything serious. So he will get back in a few days. KL is a very established player for us, a very solid player.
These kinds of scenarios present other players in the team with an opportunity to step up.” Kohli quipped about his team,” I don’t think there are any areas of concern for us. We have been looking to fine tune smaller areas during the course of the game. We have given responsibility to the players to identify those areas.”
“Even the substitutes who sit on the sideline, their concern for the team, it is great to see them as a part of the team. The culture in the team is outstanding and makes me proud. All guys think we can do it. We have the belief and trust,” he further added. (AGENCIES)
