50% employees to work from home, SSC exams postponed: Dr Jitendra

NEW DELHI, Mar 19 : As a preventive measure to contain the spread of Covid-19 Corona Virus infection, the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) today issued instructions for 50% of its employees to work from home. At the same time, decision has been taken to postpone the ongoing Combined Higher Secondary Level (CHSL) Exam as well as the scheduled Junior Engineer Exam by Staff Selection Commission (SSC).
Disclosing this here today, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Dr Jitendra Singh, who is also In-Charge DoPT, said that all the Heads of Departments have been asked to ensure that 50% of Group ‘B’ and ‘C’ employees are required to attend office and the remaining 50% should be instructed to work from home. At the same time, he said, in another letter addressed to State and Union Territory Governments, DoPT has suggested that appropriate measures may be taken in the background of the outbreak of Covid-19 that has been declared a global pandemic.
As per the Office Memorandum (OM) issued by the DoPT today, all the HODs have been asked to draft a weekly roster of duties for Group ‘B’ and ‘C’ employees and ask them to attend office on alternate weeks. In other words, Dr Jitendra Singh explained, this will be a weekly rotation of 50% of the staff by turn.
The HoDs have also been advised that while deciding upon the roster for the first week, it is advised to include officials who are residing in close proximity to their office and can use their own transport to travel to their offices. Meanwhile, the officials who work from home on a particular day as per the roster will be expected to remain available on phone and electronic means of communication. They should also be ready to attend the office in case of exigency of services.
In addition, the working hours of all the employees who attend the office on a particular day are to be staggered. It is suggested that three groups of employees be formed and asked to attend office as per the different timings notified.
Meanwhile, in reply to an ISRO related question in Rajya Sabha today, Dr Jitendra Singh informed that in the year 2020-21, 36 Space missions have been planned which include Satellites and Launch Vehicles.
The breakup of these Space Missions is as follows, 10 Observation Satellites, 3 Communication Satellites, 2 Navigation Satellites, 3 Space Science Satellites, 1 Technology Demonstration, 10 PSLVs, 03 GSLVs MK-II, 01 GSLV MK-III, 2 Small Satellite Launch Vehicles and 1 Gaganyaan (Unmanned).
The reply also disclosed that in the current year of 2019-20 till date, 11 Space missions have since been completed.
