5 yrs imprisonment to Branch Post Master in 7 cases

JAMMU, Sept 17: Special Judge Anticorruption Vinod Chatterji Koul today decided seven cases of CBI and convicted Sukhdev Singh, the then Branch Post Master, Branch Post Office Dalhori, Rajouri and awarded five years imprisonment to him in each case and total fine of Rs 15,80,000.
According to the police case, Sukhdev Singh during his posting as Branch Post Master, Branch Post Office Dalhori collected and accepted the amounts from the various poor and innocent persons for issuing Kisan Vikas Patra (KVPs) for which he was not authorized.
He also collected money from the customers for depositing the same in various saving schemes of Post Office but kept most of amount with him and issued fake KVPs/Receipt/ Passbooks to the depositors. In some cases where Passbooks were genuine but the amount shown in the Pass book was much less than what it was actually deposited in the respective accounts.
The total amount which was misappropriated by way of cheating, forgery and criminal breach of trust by accused Sukhdev Singh has come to Rs 9,42,461.
This case was investigated by Inspector Kamal Sangra, who was on deputation to CBI from J&K Police and at present in Vigilance Organization Jammu (UDR) Wing.
Atter hearing Kapil Verma, PP CBI whereas Advocate Suneet Singh Jamwal appearing for the accused, Special Judge Anticorruption observed, “it is established by the prosecution evidence, documentary as well as oral that the accused, being a public officer intentionally utilized the amount kept in his trust for his personal use, thus the accused has committed criminal misappropriation and the accused is accordingly found guilty”.
Accordingly, the accused was convicted for committing the offences under Section 409, 420, 468 & 471   RPC and 5(2) read with 5(1) (c) & (d) of Prevention of Corruption Act. He was awarded 5 years imprisonment in each case and fine of Rs 15,80,000.
