SRINAGAR, Aug 22: Two Border Security bunkers and 24 structures were swept away and seven BSF personnel were rescued, five of them in injured condition, and one is missing in a cloudburst near the Line of Control (LoC) in Gurez sector of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district today.
The cloudburst occurred in remote villages of Churwan in Dawar and Burnai in Tulail area near the LoC early this morning and washed away two BSF bunkers and 24 structures. Seven BSF jawans were rescued, 5 of them in injured condition, and a head constable of the BSF is missing. Efforts are on to trace him out. The injured BSF men were airlifted to Srinagar 92-Base hospital of Army at Chinar Corps headquarters for treatment.
The cloudburst triggered landslides in the area but there was no report of any civilian casualty. The cloud burst washed away 24 structures in village Churwan, however, no one was either injured or washed away in the flash floods that followed the cloud burst.
The heavy rains and cloud bursts in the upper reaches of Bandipora district triggered landslides and flash floods in Malangam, Wiavan, Athwuthu Quil Kanbathi and Katchen villages. The Kothas in these villages were washed away in these floods. Residents of these areas said Army provided them timely help.
